Find a Great Read at These Independent Bookstores in Oak Park

Curling up with a good book is a great way to relax before bed, while at the same time improving your concentration and focus. Whether you like classic titles or the latest bestsellers, these independent bookstores in Oak Park offer something for everyone:

The Book Table

The Book Table boasts that it has been fiercely independent since 2003. Owners Jason and Rachel met while working at a bookstore in 1998 and eventually decided to open their own shop. It started from humble beginnings and moved to a larger location five years later to keep up with the demand. The couple enjoys making recommendations, and their experience has taught them how to get the best books and sell them at the best prices. Genres include biography, true crime, and travel.

Uncharted Books

Nestled in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, Uncharted Books is a small, independent shop. On most days, owner Tanner McSwain is the friendly face behind the counter. The shop’s storefront is a cross between a Victorian art collector’s brownstone and an underground punk venue. In addition to the ever-changing selection of 30,000 books, visitors also find a variety of locally made crafts and upcycled book art.

Sandmeyer’s Bookstore

Hidden on Printer’s Row, Sandmeyer’s Bookstore is a mom and pop shop that has offered a quality selection and unbeatable service since 1982. It has been recognized by various publications such as the Chicago Tribune, and its cozy, industrial atmosphere is where strangers become friends. The selection includes everything from fresh copies of old favorites to the latest bestsellers.
