Founded in 1903, the Oak Park Public Library has a long history of providing public access to information, resources, and services. Today, many of the library’s offerings are available virtually. Here is some of what you can enjoy online from our apartments in Oak Park.

Multicultural Collection

The Multicultural Collection at the Oak Park Public Library is a great learning resource to explore cultures past and present. Objects held in the collection include dolls, games, and handmade textiles. They’re meant to spark curiosity and conversation. Part of this amazing collection can be viewed online. The library also offers virtual cultural events such as Spanish Conversation Hour, held on Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Log on to practice your Spanish-speaking skills with other Oak Park residents, whether you’re a beginner or a fluent speaker.

E-books

With more than 319,000 e-books, Hoopla offers everything from historical fiction to the latest bestselling mysteries. To get started, check out James Patterson’s Private Vegas. This novel tells the story of private investigator Jack Morgan, who’s on the hunt for a murderer in Las Vegas. What he uncovers is unlike anything he’s ever seen. The lending period for e-books is 21 days.

The Great Courses

Accessed through Kanopy, The Great Courses offers an array of online classes. One of the most popular is Rediscovering the Lost Art of Cooking. Taught by an instructor from the Culinary Institute of America, it features 24 lessons that you can watch at your own pace. Sharpen your knife skills and learn how to make fettuccine, brined pork chops, and soups from around the world.
